Careers at Greptime

Greptime builds an open-source observability database in Rust — one engine for metrics, logs, and traces (github.com/GreptimeTeam/greptimedb). We're a venture-backed early-stage team distributed across the US and China. It runs in production at companies with serious time-series workloads — observability, IoT, connected vehicles.

This DevRel role exists because our global developer community is outgrowing what engineering can cover directly — we need someone whose full-time job is meeting developers where they are.

Developer Advocate

Remote — Americas or Europe. Full-time. Part-time or contract also OK.

The role

You'll be the public face of Greptime to the global developer community. The role is wide open — you won't be slotting into someone else's playbook, you'll be writing it.

Hands-on work: write code, ship demos, give talks, answer hard questions on GitHub and Slack, and bring what you hear back to engineering.

This is one of our first dedicated DevRel hires, calibrated for someone 1–3 years in. The scope grows as you grow — do this well, and in 12–18 months you're a senior DevRel here, with input on how the team and program look next.

What you'll do

  • Write technical content engineers actually finish — deep dives, migration walkthroughs from Prometheus / Loki / Elasticsearch, honest comparisons
  • Build demos and reference architectures with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and the rest of the ecosystem
  • Speak at conferences and meetups (we cover travel and help with CFPs)
  • Show up daily in GitHub, Slack, and social — answer questions, surface patterns back to the team

What we want

  • One or two years doing something adjacent — DevRel, technical writing, an engineering role with a public component, OSS maintainership
  • Public talks we can watch and writing we can read. One thing you're proud of is enough.
  • You can ship a working demo in Rust, Go, Python, Java, or JavaScript
  • Genuine interest in data infrastructure — observability, time-series, distributed systems. You don't need to be an expert yet.
  • You run your own work. We won't be checking in on what you did this week.

We don't care about your school, your current title, or your exact years of experience. We do care about evidence — show us what you've shipped, written, or spoken about, and let the work speak.

Compensation

US: $100,000–$150,000 base + equity, calibrated for an early-to-mid-level hire. Outside the US: adjusted to local market. As you grow into a senior role, the package grows with you.

Equity is meaningful at this stage — we're early, and a real part of the upside lives there.

Health, 401(k) (US), PTO, home office stipend, real conference budget.

Visa sponsorship: case by case.
